It's Thundering Outside!

外边打雷了！

Bonus theme lesson (not part of the official HSK1/2/3 curriculum): weather phenomena (lightning, typhoon, fog, thunder, cloud), rooms of the house (balcony, garage, living room, bedroom, study), and simple adjectives (bright, dark, noisy). Nearly all words are entirely outside the official HSK1-3 vocabulary; a couple (clear/sunny, rain, snow) are reused from HSK1/HSK2 as supporting weather vocabulary. Dialogues use only official HSK1 vocabulary plus the new words introduced here.

Text 1

外边打雷，天气不好。

wài biān dǎ léi ， tiān qì bù hǎo 。

It's thundering outside, the weather is bad.

陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)外边打雷了，你听见了吗？
王老师 (Ms. Wang)听见了，还有闪电。
陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)我不喜欢打雷和闪电。
王老师 (Ms. Wang)我也不喜欢。雾也不好。
陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)今天没有台风，很好。

陈天中的新家很大，王老师去看看。

chén tiān zhōng de xīn jiā hěn dà ， wáng lǎo shī qù kàn kàn 。

Chen Tianzhong's new home is very big, Ms. Wang goes to take a look.

王老师 (Ms. Wang)你的家很大，这是客厅吗？
陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)是，这是客厅，那是卧室。
王老师 (Ms. Wang)卧室很亮，我喜欢。

陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)不亮，很暗。
王老师 (Ms. Wang)房间吵不吵？
陈天中 (Chen Tianzhong)很吵，我不喜欢。

    Will there be a typhoon tomorrow?

  • 书房很吵，我不喜欢。 (Shūfáng hěn chǎo, wǒ bù xǐhuān.)

    The study is noisy, I don't like it.
